VILLAGE DOOR<< previous

This piece of furniture is made of an old entrance door from the 17th century, which was found in an abandoned village in the Bolognese Apennines. It has been adapted to the use but its state, in which it was found, has been maintained and the structure has been strengthened only there where necessary.

The whole bearing structure is made of transparent plexiglass and inside the showcase there are images and a video, which show the current situation of the village. The phrase "Who does not understand the silence cannot hear it speak", inspired by Niccolò Tommaseo, is engraved in a little wooden frame, which lights up during the night, when the lights are turned off, because of a phosphoric coating.

All woods of oak and chestnut, which were used for solidifying the main structure of the showcase, were found in a collapsed attic in the same village and have been treated with natural wax only.

Used materials: old wood, polyester, plexiglass, ironmongery from the 17th century, historical clothes hanger, neon-light, digital picture frame with video, lambda print, phosphoric color
